9/5/10

Completely insane two weeks... and Knuck Score...

So... I've been slacking here lately but I've been busy as hell...

So a month or two back me and Tim made plans to get a vendor spot at a swap meet in Raleigh and buy and sell some stuff... which I pretty much try to do whenever there is a swap meet...

We get down there and its a complete dud, like 6 people selling things, its all jap and brit crap (no offense to those of you with those, just not my deal) so its kinda sucking ass... no one is buying anything, you get the picture. So I'm going through Craigslist on my phone and turn up two knuckleheads in Ohio for 10 grand... Thats a pretty hot deal, so I call the guy up, he gives me the rundown and its basically two mismatched years and numbers knucks, he had an offer of 7 grand for the pair, but he wont take less than $7500.... One is a basket case, and one is complete...

So I get off the phone and I'm sitting there doing math in my head about how to get $7500 and thinking this whole deal out. Tim says call the dude back, thats all you're thinking about anyway and lock it in so I call the guy, offer him the $7500 if I can come up there and get the basket case for $3500 and give him the other half in a week... He agrees, so I go back in, tell Tim I made the deal and lets pack this shit up, and I drop him and the DS gear off at his place and roll out for Ohio. Mind you, I live in VA, so I'm already 5 hours or so the wrong direction...

So 8 hours later I show up, its about 9:30 at night, check out the basket case and I see those beautiful heads and motor parts all laid out, and the guy shows me the picture of what the bike looked like (Tim posted the pic of the pic a few posts ago) and tells me it was his ride from back in the 70s... took it apart to fix it, but never did, and bought the complete bike to swap the motor into his bike, but never did it.

The other bike is a pan bottom end with all knuck parts, OG 1938 uncut (mostly) Knuck frame with an ugly 70's dyna front end... looked like this...

So I get the basket in, hustle off some of the parts to cover expenses, I go up and pull another 16 hours of driving a week later and make it back to Ohio and pick her up...

Get back at 6am and crash for about three hours and my kids get me up. So I'm back to boxing the stuff I've been offing to buy this bad boy and pay the man, hit the post office right before close, and I'm boxing more crap up and Wayne calls.

"I'm going to Davenport to the swap, I'll be at your house in 15 mins, get your stuff"

So there I am, thought Davenport wasnt even in the picture and a ride shows up to go.

So I run next door, get a sitter, call the wife, grab some clothes and its out 15 hours to Iowa...

Got back last night at 1 am, boxed some stuff up and tricked out the bike a little with some stuff from Iowa and the private stash... now working out the little things and you know, getting it working again...

Rear wheel is going a little bigger, have a 19 with a firestone on the way, some other little stuff, but basically, thats it, I'll post some more...
